This summer, Outsiderwear Festival, starts in Amsterdam. For two weeks, 10 - 24 July, streetwear made by the coolest “outsider” and “insider” artists will be shown at different locations in the city. More than 40 “outsider” and “insider” artist bring a dynamic program with exhibitions, workshops, tours and an activist photo campaign.
OUTSIDERWEAR FESTIVAL
The Outsiderwear Festival starts on the 8th of July with a kick off in Melkweg in Amsterdam. After the launch, the Outsiderwear collabs will be on show as well as for sale at several festival locations, among others Outsider Art Galerie, Museum van de Geest | Outsider Art, Vriend van Bavink, Patta Store, Zeedijk60 and Sexyland World. In september 2021 Museum van de Geest | Outsider Art presents, in the context of Outsiderwear, a spectacular exhibition with designer Duran Lantink and Theatergroep LeBelle. The city will participate as well. On several locations, you will be surprised by a dynamic side program including exhibitions, an activistic photo campaign, tours and talks. After summer the Outsiderwear tour will start, among others on the following locations: Galerie MAMA (Rotterdam), Galerie Neus (Nijmegen), Art Brut Biënnale (Hengelo) and Special Arts (Amersfoort).
ABOUT OUTSIDERWEAR
Outsiderwear is a project in which talented “outsider” artists collaborate with emerging or already successful fashion designers, streetwear labels and artists. An outsider artist is an artist with, for example, a mental or physical disability, a psychological vulnerability or a ‘’homeless background’’. Nowadays there is already more attention for outsider art, but the world of outsider art rarely comes together with the mainstream creative industry. Outsiderwear breaks this dichotomy, and connects the worlds of insiders and outsiders through collaborations and various activities.
