About

Sam Andrea is an Amsterdam-based artist whose work explores the animalistic essence of human nature, emphasizing the sexual and violent impulses inherent in modern society. His self-identified punk-baroque realism captures the absurdity of reality, drawing heavily from autobiographical experiences. Andrea engages with models and scenarios from his immediate surroundings, rooted in counterculture, anarchist squats, and queer nightlife.

In his latest series, Andrea shifts away from direct representation and the traditional colour palette, embracing a more liberated approach to the core themes that define his work. The vibrant greens, yellows, and reds he employs introduce a fresh direction in his artistic expression. These new paintings are more intuitive and dreamlike, allowing for a direct engagement with the medium that makes them resonate with an authenticity that surpasses even his most lifelike pieces.

Since his graduation from the Royal Academy Of Art in the Hague in 2018 Sam Andrea has had multiple solo exhibitions with gallery Vriend van Bavink, shown work at Big Art, Art Rotterdam, and museum MORE. Andrea has worked internationally and had exhibitions at Arden Asbaek gallery in Copenhagen and shown in Mexico City, Antwerpen and Austin Texas.

Andrea will show his never before seen approach to reality at This Artfair 2025.
